BUCHAREST – SINAIA – PREJMER – BRASOV – BUCHAREST

In the morning, the tour will first take you to Sinaia, known as the Pearl of the Carpathian Mountains. On the way, you will pass by the famous city of Ploiești, the second best-defended city, after Berlin, during WWII.

In Sinaia, located at the foothills of the Carpathians, you will view Peleș Castle with its overwhelming splendor (view from outside only as the castle is closed during the month of November). Built at the request of Carol I, the first king of Romania, Peleș Castle is considered one of the most beautiful castles in Europe.  Next, to Peleș Castle you will enter Pelișor Castle, a small replica of Peleș Castle. It was built for the second royal couple of Romania, King Ferdinand, and Queen Marie. There you will be introduced to the story of the royal family of Romania and discover the huge legacy they left behind. This introduction will take place in the impressive set of Pelișor castle that was decorated under the direct supervision of Queen Marie, in Art Nouveau, Celtic and Neo-Romanian style. Do not miss the Golden Room where her real heart lays today.

Once the tour leaves Sinaia behind and crosses the Carpathians, you will reach the legendary land of Transylvania. There, you will stop at the beautiful UNESCO site of Prejmer fortified church. Built by the Saxons during the 13th century, the church is the largest of its kind and the best-preserved fortified church in Transylvania. The thick-walled fortification was specially built to shelter the villagers during siege time. Be prepared to step back in time as you visit the Evangelic church, its fortifications and a small museum that preserves original objects from the medieval period.

In the afternoon, you will arrive in Brașov, a charming medieval city, founded by German colonists 750 years ago. Also known as Kronstadt in German (the city of the Crown), or Brasso in Hungarian, the city boasts of its wonderful medieval architecture. Massive walls, towers, and gates surround the city protecting it against invasion. Further protection was provided by its ideal location flanked by the steep inclines of the neighboring mountains. Located on an important trade route, the city developed quickly, and the residents built one of the most impressive Gothic churches between Vienna and Istanbul, today is known as the Black Church.

In Brașov, you will also visit the Museum of Urban Civilization, which illustrates various public and private urban spaces representative for 16th-19thcenturies Transylvanian cities.

In the evening, you are going to be taken back to Bucharest, with stop(s) along the way.
